The “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge recently held a teachers workshop.

On April 4-5, the DDWS education staff hosted a pilot program for eight Lee County teachers, who hailed from elementary, middle and high schools. The workshop involved classroom and field work at the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel and the refuge’s Gulf-side Perry Tract.

“The result was phenomenal for a pilot workshop such as this,” Conservation Educator Sara Hallas said. “The teachers were all so positive and excited about it.”

The participants were asked to evaluate the program upon its completion.

“Absolutely the best workshop ever,” Cape Coral High School teacher Lori Shaw wrote.

“The attention to detail and expertise shared with us was awesome,” she continued. “Thank you for how kindly we were treated and the generosity of the lunches and brunch. We were treated so professionally and are grateful.”

Due to the success of the program, another one is being planned for the summer of 2020.
