Tickets are currently on sale for The Sanibel School’s second performance of the year.

Open to the public, the school will host its Spring Music Showcase on May 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the cafetorium. The annual concert will feature the Seahorse Chorale and the Elementary Choir.

The theme is “Songs From and Inspired By Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Jr.'”

Every year, the school hosts two performances in the fall and the spring.

“Music Showcases are held to showcase each of the music ensembles at The Sanibel School that rehearse during that particular semester,” Music Department Director Joey Giangreco said.

He explained that the fall concert typically features the Steel Drum Band, Elementary Choir, Orff Club and Seahorse Chorale, while the spring event highlights the Seahorse Chorale and Elementary Choir.

“It also showcases Performing Arts presenting a sneak peak of their upcoming musical production,” Giangreco added of the second showcase.

This year, Performing Arts will present a sneak peak of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Jr.”

“We hope that this will excite audience members to come to our full production,” he said.

“The Little Mermaid Jr.” will run on May 16-17 at 7 p.m. in the cafetorium.

Giangreco explained that the Seahorse Chorale is the middle school choir, an elective class open to sixth-graders, seventh-graders and eighth-graders. Founded over two years ago, it has since participated in many performances, like a Veteran’s Day Program, Seahorse Chorale Spectacular and showcases.

On the islands, it has performed at the Thanksgiving Celebration and for the Rotary Club.

“This past February, the Seahorse Chorale performed at the Music Performance Assessment adjudication festival,” he said, noting that the choir received an overall rating of excellent, with a superior rating on its sight singing.

“The Seahorse Chorale has had the privilege of presenting a performance at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World for the past two school years,” Giangreco added.

The Elementary Choir is open to students in third through fifth grade and rehearses weekly.

“The ensemble has participated in a number of performances throughout our school, including the Veteran’s Day Program and Fall and Spring Music Showcases,” he said. “They also perform annually at the Bailey Fest at Bailey’s General Store.”

Originally set for last month, the Spring Music Showcase had to be postponed until May.

“Due to major issues we were having with our old sound system,” Giangreco said. “We now have a brand new sound system, thanks in part to a generous donation from the Padgett Family Foundation.”

“We are very excited to debut our new sound system,” he added.

The performance tickets are $5 for adults and can be purchased at the door.

“All money raised will go to support The Sanibel School Music Department,” Giangreco said.

Concessions will also be available for purchase at the concert.

Again, the proceeds will benefit the Music Department.

The community is encouraged to come out and enjoy an evening of music.

“The Spring Music Showcase is sure to be an exciting concert, showcasing the great talent that we have at The Sanibel School,” he said. “We hope that you will be able to come to the show and support our talented students.”
