City, DDWS co-sponsoring Earth Day contests for youths

The “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge and the city of Sanibel Recreation Department are hosting two contests for children to celebrate Earth Day.

There is a song or poem contest for youth in fourth through eighth grade. The topic is Earth Day, with a poem submitted that is a minimum of three lines or a song written to the tune of “Old MacDonald.”

In addition, kindergarten through third grade may submit a drawing inspired by Earth Day.

The deadline for the contests is April 30.

The DDWS is providing a variety of gifts for the winners.

Entries can be emailed to kayla.schuneman@mysanibel.com, as well as mailed/dropped off at the City of Sanibel Department of Recreation, 3880 Sanibel Captiva Road, Sanibel, FL 33957. Submissions will also be collected by the DDWS on April 22 at the refuge, at 1 Wildlife Drive, Sanibel.
