Zontians to collect donations for local non-profits

The Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva will host the 4th annual Community Collection Day on March 30 from 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ.

The event will benefit local non-profits with which the club has a service relationship, all of which work to improve the lives of women and girls.

The public is asked to bring gently-used and new items for the groups to use in their missions to empower women – a goal shared by Zonta. All donations are tax deductible; Zontians will be on hand to collect items and issue tax receipts.

The following is a partial list of items requested:

– Abuse Counseling & Treatment of Fort Myers: Toiletries of all kinds, new twin size bedding, towels, washcloths, baby wipes and disposable diapers, pots and dishes – items to furnish a home with

– Community Housing & Resources: Baby strollers, toddler clothes, toys and diapers

– Dress for Success: Women’s career clothing (in very good condition), shoes and handbags

– Habitat for Humanity/Women Build: Hardware (doorknobs, nails, screws, nuts and bolts), new cans of latex paint, working power tools, hand tools, artwork and framed mirrors, kitchenware, small appliances, area rugs and floor lamps (visit LeeHendry.HabitatRestores.org for a complete list)

– Head Start Parent University (ESL): Children’s books, alphabet flash cards, bingo games and primary activity workbooks

– Human Trafficking Awareness Partnerships: Art gift kits such as “Learn to Sketch” or sets of sharpies, flip charts (new or partial), large sketch pads, color pencils, new art brushes, plastic or vinyl tablecloths, flat sheets and drop cloths, large strong trash bags and painter’s tape (full rolls or partial)

– PACE Center for Girls Lee County: Dresses for “Love that Dress” fundraiser

– SalusCare: Games, books, arts and crafts materials, sporting goods (balls, gloves) and women’s career clothing

– Trailways Camp: Fishing poles and supplies, fabric and regular markers, decorative stickers, acrylic paints, paper towels, Styrofoam cups and trays, Kleenex, color pencils, bath towels and overnight toiletries.
