The Sanibel-Captiva Audubon Society will host photographic journalist Rick Bunting for a presentation, “2018 Stories From a Roadside Naturalist,” on Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.

Bunting’s program will feature observations, stories and photos of a variety of wildlife found near his home in central New York and elsewhere during 2018. Most of the photos included are literally from the roadside, although he does include some from his yearly visit to Florida. With television programs centered around exotic and secluded places to view the natural world, Bunting believes it is important to focus on that which is readily accessible to see the magic and mystery of nature that is close at hand.

Bunting is a professor emeritus of the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, where he served as chair of music education and conductor of the Crane Chorus. His retirement has allowed him to pursue his interest in birds and other wildlife. The idea of taking pictures evolved from a simple desire to share what he was seeing. That has become programs presented to a variety of organizations like bird, garden and naturalist clubs, Audubon groups, and service, social and church groups.

This is the sixth of nine Sanibel-Captiva Audubon lectures to be held. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and parking is available at The Community House, as well as at the BIG ARTS Strauss Theater.

A $10 donation per attendee is appreciated, with the proceeds after costs being used to promote conservation on Sanibel and in Florida.
