Last chance to purchase CHR Mardi Gras fundraiser tickets

2 min read

The Seventh Annual Mardi Gras Fundraiser for Community Housing and Resources will be held on Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.

Limited tickets are still available for $150 and can be purchased at www.SanibelCHR.org or by contacting tickets@SanibelCHR.org and at Bailey’s General Store on Sanibel. The event will feature live music by The Porchdogs, dancing, fortune tellers, and Cajun food, along with beer and wine.

“This year, the Mardi Gras takes a ride on the New Orleans-style Sanibel Queen Riverboat, complete with a bourbon bar, games of chance, a silent auction, and the ‘Homes of Love’ giving opportunity – a fantastic way to support the mission of CHR,” CHR Executive Director Melissa Rice said.

The games of chance will include a variety of gaming opportunities, such as blackjack, roulette, craps and poker. Guests can ante up to each table, playing to win raffle tickets for prizes. Raffle tickets will be pulled at the end of the evening; winners need not be present. New this year is a no-limit Texas Hold ‘Em poker-style tournament played in 30-minute increments, with winners taking home a selection of table prizes.

The bourbon bar, hosted by Sanibel resident and bourbon aficionado Martin Fleming, will offer an assortment of bourbon fixed on the rocks, neat or with water, along with flights of bourbon choices.

This year’s game prizes, raffle items and silent auction offerings include dinners at local restaurants, such as MudBugs Cajun Kitchen, Sweet Melissa’s Cafe, Thistle Lodge Beachfront Restaurant and Malia Island Fusion Cuisine, as well as catered culinary experiences; outdoor activities, ranging from a plane ride, eco tours, boat rides, golf and parasailing, to wave runner, kayak and paddleboard rentals; trips to Key West and New Orleans; items from Lowe’s, including a power washer, generator and gift certificates; and other items.

“Homes of Love” gives guests the opportunity to donate directly in support of the needs of CHR.

“As you can imagine, with 74 units in 11 locations throughout the island, there are always things to repair or replace,” Rice said, adding that donations to “Homes of Love” fund the critical needs.
