Fundraiser to feature fashions from Sanibel shops
The islands have an upcoming opportunity to check out the spring fashion trends for 2019.
The Community House and Periwinkle Place will host a Fashion Show and Luncheon on Feb. 22 starting at noon at the Sanibel facility, with the doors opening at 11:30 a.m. It will feature looks from several Periwinkle merchants, along with a prepared lunch, raffle prizes, entertainment and more.
Sarah Jacobson, director of marketing and event planning for the venue, explained that it is the first time they have partnered with Periwinkle Place – the sponsor – to offer the event to the community.
“These are all local stores that we wanted to feature, especially with everything that’s happened,” she said, referring to the revenue losses experienced last year by businesses due to the water problems.
“We thought it would be fun to see our local families as models, as well,” Jacobson added.
Carol Townsley, one of the volunteers, is serving as the chair for the event.
“Carol’s background is in fashion, and she’s owned a boutique store before,” she said.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Culinary Education Center of Sanibel at the facility.
“It is a fundraiser for our culinary program,” Jacobson said.
The participating merchants will include Beach Daisy Boutique, Butterfly Beach, Chico’s, Fresh Produce, Her Sports Closet, Island Pursuit, Peach Republic, Sea Glass Lane and Trader Rick’s.
“It’ll be everything – trends from dawn to dusk,” she said. “So say starting your morning with a bike ride or going for a swim, to going out to dinner in the evening.”
Organizers are aiming to present about 30 looks in total for women, men and children.
“There will be a range of shapes, sizes and ages,” Jacobson said.
In addition, other merchants will participate with displays or gift baskets. They will include Paradise Boutique, Tiki Jim’s, Sanibel Sunglass Company, Naples Soap Company, Sanibel Day Spa, Sand Castle Gifts and Gourmet, and Toys Ahoy.
She noted that the models are well-known faces, but not necessarily the regular “celebrities.”
“People that you see in your day-to-day life around the islands,” Jacobson said, citing CROW volunteers and members of MOPS as examples. “We’re trying to have a fresh face and bring in some groups that might not normally take part.”
The entertainment for the catwalk will be provided by Gene Federico.
“The models will mingle and walk through the guests after they’re walked the runway,” she said, explaining that a couple may walk through the audience with bicycles in their workout gear.
“I think it is going to be more lively because it is going to be more interactive,” Jacobson added. “It’s going to be more fun and entertaining.”
The showcased looks will be available for purchase, with a day-of discount possible.
Resident Chef Jarred Harris is preparing a menu on par with the unique and top-notch event. It will consist of carrot coriander soup, Mediterranean chicken salad, and fresh baked bread with olive oil and Parmesan. There will also be a mix of handmade desserts and a speciality cocktail just for the show.
She hinted that it could be a prosecco with one’s choice of a mixer, like peach, pear or mango.
Attendees will receive raffle tickets for a chance at door prizes.
“It’s items donated from the different stores at Periwinkle Place,” Jacobson said.
There will be gift baskets and bundled items, as well as gift prizes like an in-home gourmet dinner prepared by Harris for up to eight people and $50 gift cards from the merchants at Periwinkle.
Event tickets are $45 for members and $50 for guests.
They can be bought online and from the venue, merchants and Bailey’s General Store.
The deadline to purchase tickets is Feb. 19.
People are encouraged to pick up theirs for a sneak peek at the spring trends.
“It’s fun to get together with your friends and have a nice day out with a lovely meal,” she said.
