F.I.S.H. hosts annual meeting, volunteer recognition luncheon

F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva held its annual meeting and volunteer recognition luncheon on Feb. 20 at The Community House on Sanibel.
Special guests included the BIG ARTS Chorus, which entertained guests prior to lunch, catered by Sanibel Catering Company by Bailey’s. F.I.S.H. celebrated its volunteers, who tirelessly provide treasures of time to assist island neighbors. In 2018, F.I.S.H. volunteers provided 7,065 hours of service and drove 33,797 miles on behalf of F.I.S.H. and its neighbors. Special tokens of appreciation were given to Tom Dunham, son of one of the original founders of F.I.S.H., and Jacque Cramer, who is retiring as the luncheon coordinator.
Financial information was presented showing that 93.1 percent of all donations go directly to F.I.S.H. programming. Plans for 2019 and beyond include offering additional workshops, exploring mental health and depression and suicide prevention; enhancing programming for adult and youth education; combatting isolation and encouraging socialization; addressing medical needs of the aging population; increasing donor base; and volunteer recruitment.
The only human services organization on Sanibel and Captiva, the non-profit provides programs, services and workshops for those who live on, work on or are visiting the islands.
