Woman searching for bracelet lost near Donax Street beach

A Sanibel resident is hoping to be reunited with a family heirloom she lost while out shelling.

On the afternoon of Dec. 19, Barb Walling and her husband headed to the beach off of Donax Street to do some shelling. The couple spent the next two or three hours chasing after shells on the shoreline.

“There had been some big winds and a lot of surf rolling in bringing in big shells,” she said.

Afterward, as they headed up the ramp on the way back to the car to head home, a realization hit Walling. The gold link charm bracelet that she had been wearing was no longer on her wrist.

“I have no idea if it was early on in the shell hunt or later,” she said of when it came off.

Walling described the bracelet as having double or triple links with a set of charms.

“It has four charms on it in the shape of children’s heads. There’s one boy and three girls,” she said. “There are also names engraved on the back of the heads with birth dates.”

Walling explained that the jewelry has deep sentimental value.

“This belonged to my mother. It’s me, my brother and sisters,” she said of the charms, adding that her mother passed away last year. “We all got a piece of jewelry and that was mine. It was my legacy.”

The piece was custom-made and one-of-a-kind, making it irreplaceable.

“I’ve just been sick over it,” Walling said.

She has filed two reports with the Sanibel Police Department, but it has not been turned in.

Anyone who finds the bracelet is asked to take it to the police so she can retrieve it.

The Sanibel Police Department is at 800 Dunlop Road.
