Pastor to offer course on ‘Civil Conversation’
In a three-week course at Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ, the Rev. Dr. John H. Danner will strive to answer: How to speak about difficult issues? How to engage in civil conversation?
The classes will be held on Jan. 30, Feb. 6 and Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. and again at 7 p.m.
Danner will present contrary views on “the issue of the week”: gun control, abortion, immigration. Then, following certain conversational guidelines, participants will have the opportunity to meet in small discussion groups to share their own points of view.
“In this time of divisiveness and extreme difficulty discussing controversial issues, it is important,” Danner said, “to find ways to share opposing views without rancor.”
The course is free and open to the public.
