The Sanibel-Captiva Art League will meet on Jan. 167 from 1 to 3 p.m. at BIG ARTS, at 900 Dunlop Road, Sanibel.

Award-winning artist Jeannine Desmarais will be the guest speaker. The topic will be “Watercolor: Understanding the medium, different approaches and problem solving.”

A Canada snowbird, Desmarais is active in Canadian and American artists’ associations and exhibits regularly in galleries and symposiums. Working in watercolor, oil and pastels, she has honed her skills over more than 25 years, having studied with well-known artists from Canada, Belgium and France.

While doing much of her work in the studio from her own photography and sketches, Desmarais is also a practicing plein aire painter. She is an active member of the San Cap Art League.

The league’s meetings are free and open to the public.
