On Jan. 2, the Sanibel Community Church’s H20 youth ministry participated in a 30-Hour Famine starting at 10 a.m.

The 29 participating students raised awareness and funds to fight hunger.

The event included Bible lessons and devotions, guest speakers, building a cardboard city for sleeping quarters, games and inspirational videos. The teens completed service projects that were planned, such as a community walk for canned goods through the Dunes, a tour and canned goods drop-off with F.I.S.H of Sanibel-Captiva, and building and designing sets for a missions dinner theater production.

The event finished on Jan. 3 at 4:30 p.m. with a celebratory “Break fast dinner.”

In the end, the H2O students raised over $3,600.
