Sanibel Public Library to feature Apollo mission in VR
The Sanibel Public Library offers activities for patrons who are interested in virtual reality.
Experience the “Apollo 11 Lunar Mission in Virtual Reality” – a recreation of the events which took place in the summer of 1969 – on Dec. 28 from 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The 10- to 20-minute VR experience is for ages 10 and older. Registration is required at 239-472-2483 due to the session length.
The Shell Islands Garden Club donates its time and talent to add beauty to the library. In addition to a monthly floral display at the circulation desk, club has also decorated a birdhouse-themed Christmas tree with handmade ornaments. The library will be closed on Dec. 24-25 for the Christmas holiday.
The library also hosts the following weekly programs for children:
– Family Story Time: Wednesdays at 11 a.m. and Thursdays at 11 a.m. For young readers and their caregivers, the program helps develop pre-reading skills through songs and stories.
– After-School Crew: Thursdays at 3 p.m. Children in kindergarten through third grade will enjoy favorite books, never-knew-existed books, games and crafts, with a snack provided.
– Reading to Bessie: Rain-free Thursdays from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Have fun reading to Bessie, a bearded collie and Reading Education Assistance Dog. Participants can sign up on the spot.
– After-School Clique: Tuesdays at 3 p.m. Geared for children in fourth through sixth grade, the group will craft, build, make and play, with books and a provided snack thrown in.
The children’s programs can be found on the calendar online.
Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge.
