Historical museum to hold training for interested volunteers
The Sanibel Historical Museum and Village is looking for volunteers.
The next training classes will take place on Jan. 14 and 21 from 1 to 3 p.m.
“The museum couldn’t operate without its volunteers. We need volunteers to staff the museum in a variety of ways, from serving as docents to helping with mailings,” Executive Director Emilie Alfino said. “We have a devoted group of volunteers now and hope to add more in the coming year.”
Volunteers work either 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or from 1 to 4 p.m. Other tasks, such as decorating or mailings, are done as scheduled by a team leader.
There are opportunities to lead tours or welcome visitors in one of the historic buildings. Some volunteers like to work in the museum store. There are also opportunities to help with event planning, decorating and administrative tasks.
Volunteers are offered special educational opportunities and lectures, as well as receive a 20 percent discount at the museum store. Several social gatherings are held each year.
“It’s easy to find something you like to do and enjoy,” she said. “We’re a friendly family here.”
Those interested can contact Alfino at 239-472-4648 or info@sanibelmuseum.org.
If the set dates are inconvenient, the museum can offer additional training.
The Sanibel Historical Museum and Village is at 950 Dunlop Road.
