Waiting list created for those interested in Israel trip

2 min read

Pastor John Danner, of Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ, and Rabbi Stephen Fuchs, of Bat Yam Temple of the Islands, will lead “Growing and Learning Together” on April 29 to May 10.

The trip to Israel will feature visits to numerous historical sites, as well as an examination of the country’s place in the modern world.

When Fuchs considered coming to Bat Yam last year, Danner shared with him that he treasured the connection to Bat Yam as an important part of his congregation’s identity. The trip is an outgrowth of the desire for interreligious understanding and affirmation that is a priority for both congregations.

“It seems so natural,” Fuchs said, “for our two communities to experience the places where our respective religious traditions began and took root together.”

Danner noted the long relationship between the two island faith communities, and emphasized the value of such interfaith efforts.

“The more we understand the historical relationships of the past, the better able we are to live together in the present and work towards a richer, fuller future for all people,” he said.

Congregation members or anyone interested can put their names on a waiting list to take part.

The cost of the trip is $2,900 plus airfare.

To be put on the waiting list, send name, phone number and email address to Sandy Simmons, Sanibel Congregational UCC, 2050 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, FL 33957. Include a check for $250 per person, which is fully refundable if the trip cannot accommodate them.
