Sanibel Sea School to offers winter camp
The Sanibel Sea School will offer a pair of week-long camps during winter break.
This year’s themes will be the sun and the moon, and how each is tied to the ocean and its creatures. Campers can expect a combination of Ocean Tribe holiday traditions, exciting science, arts and crafts, and outdoor activities.
During Powered by the Moon Week, participants will explore gravity and tides, learn about how the lunar cycle affects various ocean inhabitants, and go moon gazing together.
Powered by the Sun Week will be all about the sun’s energy and how it supports life on the planet. Participants will dive in to photosynthesis, talk about some sunbathing marine species, and even make their own solar s’mores.
It would not be winter camp without a few Sanibel Sea School traditions, so there will also be hot chocolate, ocean caroling, and the annual Give Your Worries to the Sea ceremony.
Camps are open to ages 6-13, and a Counselor In Training program will also be offered for teens ages 13-18 to practice their leadership skills.
