Hirdie Girdie Gallery, in conjunction with Tower Gallery, will host a holiday “Art Under the Stars” reception on Dec. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. at 2490 Library Way, Sanibel. The gallery’s two new clay artists, Augusta Crane and Michelle McCarthy, will be featured. Crane is inspired by the flowers and leaves abundant in nature to create her bowls, plates and vases, and her pieces are embellished with realistic and colorful tropical flora. She feels a spiritual connection when working with clay and considers it a meditative experience. McCarthy creates hand-built and wheel-thrown pottery in her Port Charlotte studio. Using white, buff and speckled stoneware clays, her pottery designs often feature a form of sea life and she also likes to use texture and layering in her pieces.
