Annual Sanctuary Charity Classic to raise funds for CFI

2 min read

The 17th Annual Sanctuary Charity Classic will be held on Jan. 26 at The Sanctuary Golf Club.

Formally known as The Sanctuary Community Golf Challenge, the event has raised over $1.5 million in the past 16 years, with the proceeds donated directly to the Charitable Foundation of the Islands.

CFI in turn distributes the funds to assist island non-profit organizations and individual residents and workers who have experienced hardships, such as medical and financial emergencies.

“The Sanctuary has been the majority contributor to CFI since the beginning of the foundation, from the generous support of The Sanctuary members,” John McCabe, chairman of the event, said. “Other Sanibel and Captiva residents and businesses sponsor and play in this event. The Sanctuary members maintain a strong, cooperative spirit of neighbors helping neighbors.”

There are sponsorship opportunities ranging from the $7,500 diamond partnership, which includes additional rounds of golf, lunch and dinner at the golf club, to a $250 hole sponsorship.

“The Sanctuary Golf Club’s members overwhelmingly embraced this event, allowing the course to be closed to just this event,” Ken Kouril, chief operating officer of the golf club, said. “They are exceptionally generous and committed to this fundraiser. The fact that this is the 17th year demonstrates the dedication from the members to make the Sanctuary Charity Classic successful.”

The event begins at 10:30 a.m. with a brunch, followed by a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. After, golfers meet at the clubhouse for drinks and hors d’oeuvres, an awards presentation and the Helicopter Drop.
