Two new artists at Hirdie Girdie
Open for the season, the Hirdie Girdie Gallery on Sanibel welcomes two new artists, wood turner Chuck Biggs and oil painter Bill Hudson. Biggs especially enjoys making rounded items on a wood turning lathe, and his favorite wood is Florida mahogany. He finds it challenging to consider not only the shape of the wood, but also various characteristics, such as density and circular rings, in determining the final product. His pieces are finished with oil-based polyurethane for better durability and to bring out the wood’s natural color and grain. Hudson’s art has evolved from realistic to abstract interpretations of the subject. He enjoys arranging the elements in a pleasing interesting way and balancing tonal relationships, shape, color and texture to create a visually appealing painting. Hudson works in traditional oils using impasto techniques. The community is invited to meet the two new artists at the first reception of the season on Nov. 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. at 2490 Library Way.
