In The Garden on Sanibel has planted a spirit tree – an olive tree because it represents love and charity – that will help raise funds for local non-profits. The October recipient is Captains for Clean Water. Captains for Clean Water advocates for the elimination of harmful, large-scale Lake Okeechobee discharges into the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie River estuaries by restoring the natural flow of Lake Okeechobee water south into the Everglades and Florida Bay. Lisa Walsh, owner of In The Garden and R.S. Walsh Landscaping, explained that canvas tags will be available in the gift shop for $5, with 100 percent of the proceeds to benefit the monthly recipient. Purchasers can write well wishes or blessings on the tags and attach them to the tree. In The Garden will also match all tag sales, plus purchasers will receive a free two-inch succulent. In The Garden, at 3889 Sanibel Captiva Road, is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call 239-395-5859 or visit www.rswalsh.com.
