Shell Point presents 2018-2019 Fine and Performing Arts Series
The Shell Point Retirement Community recently announced its 2018-2019 Fine and Performing Arts Series, which features four distinct series.
“The 16th season of the Shell Point Fine and Performing Arts Series is filled with an impressive array of talented artists and dynamic performances,” Laura Slack, director of resident life, said. “With three distinct musical series, along with skills of resident artists and artisans, this season offers something for everyone.”
FINE ARTS
The Fine Arts series will highlight the artistry of Shell Point resident artists and artisans with three annual shows. The free shows will showcase the creative work of many talented residents and ranges from photography and painting to three-dimensional sculptures and intricate quilts. They include:
– Nov. 2-3: Shell Point Artists and Artisans Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Village Church on The Island
– Feb. 8-9: Shell Point Artists and Artisans Spring Fling from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Woodlands Commons at The Woodlands
– March 2 (10 a.m.), March 3 (noon) and March 4 at (10 a.m.): 2019 Shell Point Quilt Show in the Grand Cypress Room at The Woodlands
PERFORMING ARTS
The Performing Arts series will feature five concerts, with performances including some of Broadway’s most well-known hits, classical pieces from an award-winning ensemble and a big band musical performance from a group of internationally celebrated musicians. Individual tickets for the series cost $40; advance ticket packages are available and provide savings up to $35. The concerts will be held in The Village Church Auditorium on The Island. This year’s performances include:
– Nov. 15: The Golden Years of Broadway at 7 p.m.
– Jan. 15: Memphis Motown Soul Experience at 7 p.m.
– Feb. 26: Vienna Boys Choir at 7 p.m.
– March 14: Benny Goodman: When Swing Was King at 7 p.m.
– April 4: Siberian Virtuosi at 7 p.m.
CONCERTS AND CONSERVATIONS
Five Concerts and Conversations events will take place in the Grand Cypress Room at The Woodlands, which allows for an intimate chamber-style performance, followed by refreshments and the opportunity to meet the performers. Individual tickets for the series cost $30; advance ticket packages are available and provide savings up to $20. The performances include:
– Nov. 6: David Crohan, pianist, at 7 p.m.
– Jan. 24: Peter Fancovic, pianist, at 7 p.m.
– Feb. 13: Con Brio Quartet, strings, at 7 p.m.
– March 7: Sanibel Trio at 7 p.m.
– April 16: Chrysalis Chamber Players at 7 p.m.
SOUTHWEST FLORIDA SYMPHONY
Shell Point has partnered with the Southwest Florida Symphony to present three performances. The tickets for the series range from $25 to $35. They include:
– Dec. 7: Tradition, Comfort and Joy at 7:30 p.m.
– Feb. 7: Appalachian Spring at 7 p.m.
– March 21: Back-to-Back Bach at 7 p.m.
