Preschoolers learn about community helpers
During the past several weeks, Sanibel Christian Preschool students had visits from people who help communities and learned they how they do their jobs – even meeting a dog that lends a paw.
The first visitor was Parish Nurse Linda Convertine. She explained what nurses do and what her job entails. She talked about ways to stay healthy and showed some tools she uses to check people’s health.
Loki, a therapy dog that belongs to Director Ana Abella, was the next visitor. He was a big hit with the children, who learned how dogs can also be community helpers.
On Oct. 17, firefighters from the Sanibel Fire and Rescue District stopped by the preschool. They talked about fire safety and what to do in case of a fire.
“They showed us their big fire truck and allowed us to pretend to be firefighters,” Abella said. “They helped us spray water with the hose.”
At the same time, a member of the Sanibel Police Department was on hand. He showed the children his car and let them hear the siren.
“We are thankful for the work they do on our island and appreciate their love and enthusiasm for educating the smallest members of our community,” Abella said.
