The Island Seniors’ Trash & Treasures Sale is set for this weekend at the Center 4 Life.

The membership group will host the annual event on Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the proceeds helping to subsidize programs, staffing hours, fitness equipment and more at the center that the funding received from the city of Sanibel does not cover. Approximately $13,000 was raised at last year’s sale.

The gently used items run the gamut, from linens, housewares, lamps and home dcor, to children’s toys, chairs, shelving and other furniture, and pet accessories. There are even holiday decorations.

As of Oct. 25, there was a possibility there might be some bicycles available.

One of the big draws is the jewelry. With hundreds of pieces, they range from necklaces, rings and pins, to earrings, clip-ons and more. There is sterling silver, as well as pieces by Chico’s, Trifari and Coro.

A new element at this year’s event is a china cabinet available for sale, with the proceeds to benefit Community Housing & Resources. It was donated to CHR, but the non-profit had no method to sell it.

Cash and local checks will be accepted.

There will also be hot dogs, chips and drinks available for purchase.

For more information about the event, contact 239-472-5743.

The Center 4 Life is at 2401 Library Way, Sanibel.

BIG ARTS will host an Artists Reception on Oct. 19 for its first two exhibits of the season.

It will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Phillips Gallery and Founders Gallery.

“The Sense of Things” features three Southwest Florida artists – Del Holt, Guy Tieman and Dale Weber – in an exhibit that explores their art, as well as each individual’s creative process.

Holt paints creatures and scenarios that refer to the world in whimsical and thought-provoking ways, while Tieman’s “Scribbles & Bits” pieces depict birds and abstract geometrics, some with robotic associations. All about second chances, Weber creates assemblages from found objects.

“Passion for Pastels” features Suzanne G. Bennett and Michele Barron Buelow with unusual approaches to plein air painting.

Bennett, inspired by her surroundings, focuses on the twisting lines of the local foliage, large swatches of color from landscapes, and huge colorful domes of sunsets. Buelow focuses on portraying the scene in front of her, the movement, the incredible variety of hue and shape that nature displays.

Complimentary wine and hor’dourves will be provided.

Both shows are on display through Nov. 25.

For information, visit online at www.BIGARTS.org or call 239-395-0900.

The Phillips and Founders galleries are at 900 Dunlop Road, Sanibel.
