Ronald Zenobi, of South Carolina, was strolling the shallow beach waters off of Blind Pass on Oct. 5 when he found a junonia. He explained that he was helping his wife, Cynthia, look for small shells that she uses for crafting when he caught a glimpse of an unusual looking shell in about 3 feet of water. He picked it up and pocketed it, not knowing what it was. It was only until the next day, when the couple was trying to identify the shell, that they learned what a rare find they had discovered. Zenobi pointed out that ironically, the purpose of the trip was to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary by returning to Sanibel to relax and pick up some shells for crafting – making the junonia an unexpected bonus.
