F.I.S.H., Brain and Mind Care to host sleep seminar
F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva, in partnership with Brain and Mind Care, will offer a presentation, titled “Are You Walking Around in a Fog,” on Nov. 8 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ, at 2050 Periwinkle Way.
Neuropsychologist Dr. Mabel Lopez will discuss the importance of sleep, why one may have sleepless nights and how to get the amount of sleep and rest one’s body and brain needs to function at its optimal capacity.
“Sleep deprivation plays an important role in memory and attention,” F.I.S.H. Program Director Kathy Y. Monroe said. “Various sleep behaviors and/or disorders – insomnia, sleep apnea, sleep deprivation – affect the way our brains function. Some of these disorders, gone untreated, might lead to very unfavorable and irreversible consequences.”
The seminar is open to the community and lunch will be provided.
