SCC to host immunization clinic for flu, pneumonia
Sanibel Community Church will host its annual Walgreens Immunization Clinic for the flu and pneumonia on Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon at Fellowship Hall.
The CDC states that the 2017-2018 influenza season was a high severity season across all age groups. There were high levels of outpatient clinic and emergency department visits, with widespread geographical activity for an extended period of time. The season activity began to increase in November and reached an extended period of high activity in January and February. The activity remained elevated through the end of March, making the season one of the longest in recent years.
The CDC is still gathering facts, but the message seems consistent: the best protection against the flu is getting the vaccine. Additionally, the CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that adults and children – other than those who should be excluded – receive flu shots by the end of October. Most flu vaccines take about two weeks to offer maximum protection.
