Panther Baseball alumni to host 7th annual fishing tournament
The Panther Baseball Alumni Club will host its 7th annual fishing tournament on Oct. 6, with its first-ever catch, photo and release format due to the environmental issues impacting Southwest Florida.
The first six tourney winners were decided by a live weigh-in process.
The club, a non-profit organization, raises funds to support the Cypress Lake High School baseball team. Its support is intricate to the operations, paying for equipment and supplies and, most important, awarding scholarships to student athletes who exemplify leadership within their community.
In addition, a portion of this year’s proceeds will be donated to Captains for Clean Water.
The mandatory captain’s meeting will be held on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. at Salty Sam’s Marina on Fort Myers Beach, followed by the tournament’s honor start on Oct. 6 at 7 a.m. Photos must be received by 4 p.m.
Afterward, the awards dinner and ceremony will be held at Salty Sam’s Marina.
Over $5,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded, along with great deals on raffles and auction items. There is even going to be a fishing boat raffled off to one lucky winner; if a minimum of 300 tickets are not sold, the raffle will be a 50/50.
“This was such a great event last year, everyone had a lot of fun and we raised much needed funds for this worthy cause,” Justin Lee, vice president of the Panther Baseball Alumni Club, said. “We are urging all our local fishermen and women to join us for this fun event on Oct. 6.”
Teams must be registered by the captain’s meeting, which one team member must attend.
