The Sanibel Public Library will host Talk Like A Pirate Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn about Mango languages, with a chance to win Mango swag. This year’s performances will take place at the Cantina Captiva, Crow’s Nest Beach Bar & Grille, Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille, Keylime Bistro, Mucky Duck, RC Otter’s Island Eats, South Seas Island Resort and ‘Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa. National Public Lands Day

The J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, at 1 Wildlife Drive, Sanibel, will celebrate National Public Lands Day with free admission to Wildlife Drive, discounts at Tarpon Bay Explorers and special activities. Wildlife Drive opens at 7 a.m. for free touring and closes at 7 p.m. Narrated tram tours will run at normal cost at 10 a.m., 12:30 and 3 p.m. Always free, the Visitor & Education Center opens at 9 a.m. Special free and discounted activities will take place at the refuge, including:

– 8:30 a.m.: Tarpon Bay Explorers will offer a 25 percent discount off of a guided kayak tour; reservations are recommended at 239-472-8900

International Coastal Cleanup

The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum and Keep Lee County Beautiful will host the annual International Coastal Cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon at the Sanibel Causeway Islands, at 19931 Sanibel Causeway Road. Participants will meet on Island B, the one closest to Sanibel. Organizers will record the amount and number of each type of trash collected, which the Ocean Conservancy will use to calculate the most common types of trash on local beaches. Trash bags, gloves, data collection cards and a water bottle re-fill station will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle, bug spray and sunscreen. Galloway Captiva Triathlon

The annual Galloway Captiva Triathlon will be held on the grounds of the South Seas Island Resort on Captiva. CROW Patient Profiles: Snakes

Patient Profiles: Snakes of Southwest Florida is at 11 a.m.

Florida is home to 46 species of native snakes, only six of which are venomous. Although there is a widespread fear and misunderstanding of the animal, most species are harmless to humans and form vital links in the ecosystem. Snakes are extremely valuable because they are efficient at monitoring pest populations without relying on chemical pesticides which can degrade the environment and harm other animal species. Adults are $12; ages 4-12 are $7. One of CROW’s Animal Ambassadors will be present.
