Lee County Mosquito Control to use spray trucks on Sanibel
The city of Sanibel has been notified by the Lee County Mosquito Control District that spray trucks will be deployed on the island today, Aug. 21, from sundown until 2 a.m. Aug. 22.
The following areas will be treated for adult mosquitoes using a product called Kontrol:
– From the west end of West Gulf Drive east to Casa Ybel Road, including Rabbit Road and Tarpon Bay Road, and west of Periwinkle Way
– From Blind Pass southeast to Belding Drive, avoiding the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge
Mosquito season typically runs from May through October and mosquito activity increases with rain, particularly after heavy rains that produce large areas of standing water. Due to the abundance of mangroves, wetlands and salt marshes, Sanibel is a prime breeding ground for mosquitoes.
