Academy of Lifelong Learning to host separate series on Iran, Seven Wonders
The Academy of Lifelong Learning at Shell Point Retirement Community will host two informative series on some of the world’s oldest continuous civilizations and archaeological history.
The first two-part series, “Iran: Its History and Today,” will take place on Sept. 11 and 18 at 4:30 p.m. and will trace some of the world’s oldest settlements dating back to 4000 B.C. The second two-part series, “The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World,” will be held on Sept. 25 and 27 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Florida SouthWestern State College Professor Adrian Kerr will lead both of the series.
For “Iran: Its History and Today,” the first session will introduce the Indo-Europeans and uncover the rise and fall of the nation. The second session will discuss how the Islamic conquest of A.D. 650 was a turning point in Iranian history. The series will conclude with a look at recent times and the major shift in Iranian leadership.
For “The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World,” Kerr will investigate the “wonders” and their creators, historical and archaeological evidence. He will also share illustrations from his personal encounters.
