The “Smoke on the Island” Hog Roast will take place on June 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Community House on Sanibel.
Resident Chef Jarred Harris will prepare the main course and sides, including slow-roasted pig with Sanibel Mango BBQ Sauce, with tomato and fresh mozzarella salad, baked beans and yucca fries.
For an extra $5, diners can enjoy the Ice Cream Sundae bar. Featuring Love Boat Ice Cream, the options will range from vanilla and chocolate with extras like carmel, to key lime pie. There will be a range of toppings like whipped cream and sprinkles, along with some made-from-scratch sauces.
To add a fun twist to the dinner, ages 8-14 can register in advance for a children’s dessert contest. A panel of three, surprise celebrity judges from the island will decide on the winners of the competition.
Tickets are $15 and are available at the venue and at Bailey’s General Store.

Let’s Go
The Sanibel Historical Museum and Village will offer free admission to visitors on June 16.
The offer is available to both residents and visitors on the islands.
The museum tells the story of Sanibel from the Calusa and Spanish eras, to the early pioneer families who settled on the island in the 1800s. It tells of warriors, adventurers, fishermen, farmers and proprietors. The island’s way of life is recreated in a village of nine structures that have been relocated from their original sites, restored and preserved. Visitors trace the footsteps of the island’s past as they meander along a handicapped-accessible path lined with buildings that represent “old Sanibel,” as Sam Bailey said. Tour a home, fishing cottage, post office, schoolhouse, tea room, general store and more.
The Sanibel Historical Museum and Village is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.
Free guided tours are at 10:30 a.m., based upon docent availability.
Typically, admission costs $10 for ages 18 and older; children and members are free.

Let’s Go
In recognition of World Oceans Day, the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge will hold a beach walk, followed by a beach cleanup, on June 8 starting at 9 a.m.
Led by a ranger, take a one-hour guided exploration of the refuge’s Perry Tract on Sanibel. Learn about the vital beach ecosystem and do not forget to bring a shell bag to save any mementos.
Following the walk, the beach cleanup will take place.
Both are free and open to the community.
Meet at the Gulfside City Park, at 2001 Algiers Lane; parking fees will apply.
