Shell Islands Garden Club makes plans for next season at final meeting
The Shell Islands Garden Club held its final meeting of the season on May 8 at The Community House on Sanibel.
The guest speaker was Amy Bennett Williams, who is a columnist for a local news outlet and has been featured on NPR. Williams read several of her essays, which was followed by a lively discussion.
At the business meeting, plans were laid out for next year’s activities, including:
– Oct. 9: Late Season Plants, Fall Thru Early Spring Bloomers
– Nov. 13: Design a Dish Garden – Cacti, Succulents and Companion Plants
– Dec. 11: Decorating the White House for Christmas
– Jan. 8: Easy Orchids for Southwest Florida
– Feb. 12: Flower Arranging Workshop
– March 12: Art in Blood, annual art and flower show at Sanibel Public Library
– April 9: Preparing Your Landscape for the Summer
– May 14: Plants that Grow Well in Southwest Florida
The SIGC meets monthly from Oct to May. Although many members head north for the summer, an intrepid group called the Summer Girlz meet monthly on an informal basis for lunch and field trips.
The first outing this summer will be in June to the Brambles English Tea Room in Naples.
