The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation will host Gardening for Butterflies on June 13.

The class will take place at 10 a.m. at the SCCF Native Landscape and Garden Center at the Bailey Homestead Preserve, at 1300 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. See what types of butterflies are in the garden, spot the plants they are laying eggs on and learn to build a butterfly garden with plants at the center.

The cost is $10, which includes a laminated butterfly guide.

On a recent walk through the garden, seven species of Lepidoptera were spotted. Each species was present to nectar on flowers or lay eggs on larval host plants. Zebra longwing and Gulf fritillary were seen laying eggs on native passionvine. Giant swallowtails were looking for native wild lime, tasting the leaves with their feet. The hummingbird moths were attracted to the seven-year apple in bloom.

Advance reservations are required at 239-472-1932.
