Adults, youth take part in Annual Fishin’ With A Mission at South Seas

Saint Michael Lutheran School held its 5th Annual Fishin’ With A Mission tournament on May 19 at the South Seas Island Resort.

There were a total of 29 participating boats in the traditional angler tourney, as well as almost 90 children in the Rockin’ the Dock youth competition. According to organizers, the children take over the marina at South Seas and fish for prizes. Capt. James Marko donated the rod and reel combinations.

It is the second largest fundraiser for the school, organizers reported. The proceeds raised from this year’s event will go toward toward security updates and a School Resource Officer at the school.

The adult tournament winners were:

– First place and largest trout – Jonathan Steinke and Brian Dubrasky on Team Red N Blue

– Second place and largest snapper – Trey, Tiffany and Charlotte Myers and Darin and Gabby Offerman on Team Lucky Dog

– Third place and largest redfish – Wally Thomas, Bryant Cole and Chuck Cole on Team MarianSure/Black Dog Charters

For the youth tourney, the winners were as follows:

– Largest fish – Abby Goff

– Shortest fish – Josee Fry

– Most unique fish – Jordan Brancazio

– Most fish – Ashton Barnum

– First fish – Madison Mernin

– Last fish – Trent Schumaker

Organizers noted that they are already in the planning stages for next year’s event.
