Congressman Rooney to host Congressional Art Competition
U.S. Rep. Francis Rooney, District 19, will host the 2018 Congressional Art Competition on May 2 at the Center for the Arts of Bonita Springs in Bonita Springs.
The winners will be announced immediately following the competition.
The overall winner will have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year beginning in June. The second and third place artwork will be displayed in Rooney’s offices in Lee and Collier counties.
“Last year, Emma Troyer from Evangelical Christian High School amazed us with her shadowbox artwork, ‘My Florida,’ and each day hundreds of visitors to the Capitol pass by her work,” he said. “The Congressional Art Competition is unique in inspiring and rewarding young artists for their passion and creativity. I cannot wait to see what students come up with this year.”
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
