F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva to hold COPD presentation
F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva will host “Living With COPD” on April 18 from noon to 1 p.m. at The Community House on Sanibel.
Led by Teresa Summe, coordinator for the Asthma Health Management Program, the discussion will identify the risk factors leading to COPD and cover the statistical prevalence of COPD across the nation. The presentation will also review the necessary tools for a definitive diagnosis of COPD, as well as an understanding of COPD anatomy, physiology and symptoms.
“Pulmonary function testing for COPD diagnosis is relevant, as well as medication management,” Summe said.
“It is foreseeable that your life will change after being diagnosed with COPD. Not only are there physical challenges, there are emotional challenges, too,” F.I.S.H. Program Director Kathy Monroe said. “Ms. Summe will help participants understand the lifestyle changes needed to better manage their COPD and enhance their quality of life. The good news is that there is support available not only for those affected but also for their loved ones, families and/or caregivers. While living with COPD may be challenging, there are steps you can take to improve your condition.”
