Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ will present two free programs for the public.

On April 4, Jean Chandler will present “Getting on God’s Wavelength: The Lord’s Prayer as Translated from Aramaic” at 7 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. On April 5, Chandler will present a slideshow of Moscow and three small towns along the Volga River from 4 to 5:15 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.

There are various versions of the Lord’s Prayer in the Christian scriptures and used by the different branches of Christendom. For “Getting on God’s Wavelength,” Chandler will take a look at possible translations of the Lord’s Prayer in Aramaic, as it yields insights into the nature of God and more.

Using a recording of the Lord’s Prayer in Aramaic and the book “Prayers from the Cosmos,” by Neil Douglas-Klotz, the group will engage in “body prayers,” which encourage participation in the sound and feeling of the words, as well as their intellectual or metaphorical meaning.

“Put Putin in Context” will consist of a virtual tour with photos and lively commentary. Learn about Russian history and culture from Ivan the Terrible to churches, from vodka to crafts like Faberge eggs, from the circus to the metro.

Chandler has taken many trips, including one by ship from Moscow to St. Petersburg.

A retired college professor with broad interests, including language, theology and meditation, she has taken and taught classes in all three subjects, as well as neuroscience. Chandler has a doctorate in human development from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Her religious background has been ecumenical and her practice interfaith. She is a member of three Protestant churches: Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ, Old Cambridge Baptist Church in Massachusetts and Judson Memorial in New York City, which is both UCC and American Baptist.
