Sanibel Democrats Host Lee Co. Elections Supervisor

2 min read

Changes in Florida’s voter registration laws will be the topic of conversation covered by Lee County Supervisor of Elections, Sharon Harrington at the Democratic Club of the Islands membership meeting on Thursday, January 26. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at 7:00 p.m. at The Sanibel Public Library at 770 Dunlop Road on Sanibel. Harrington will discuss how these changes will affect voter registration requirements and what voters need to do to comply with the current laws. Some of these changes range from the simple, like how to order an absentee ballot, to more complicated issues, like how redistricting may affect voting.

Appointed in January of 2004 by Governor Jeb Bush to fulfill the unexpired term of former Supervisor of Elections Philinda Young, Harrington was elected in November of that same year and has served ever since. Employed with the Elections Office since 1989, Harrington has worked in all departments and was part of the transition team that worked on the countywide conversion to touch screen voting in 2002 and optical scan systems in 2008.

The Democratic Club of The Islands is an authorized organization of the Lee County Democratic Executive Committee organized to stimulate interest in political and governmental affairs, to educate the electorate about issues, to further the ideals and principles of the Democratic Party and to support Democratic Party Nominees in national, state and local elections. We urge everyone wishing to learn more about the changes in voting requirements to attend this important meeting. For further information, please email DemClubIslands@gmail.com.
