Library to host fall Saturday programs
The Captiva Memorial Library will be hosting three special Saturday events for kids and teens at the end of August and in September.
The August event for teens and tweens – a game called “Name that Source” – will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29
“It will take place here in the library and they’ll have to use reference materials of various kinds to search for the answers. They can use the electronic resources that we have, encyclopedias – anything they can find,” Pastor said, noting that while the computers will be available, some questions might require a good old fashioned card catalog.
Attendees will split into teams and spin a wheel to select a category. They will then draw a card filled with questions and and use the library’s resources to determine the answer – sort of like a trivia scavenger hunt.
“You earn points, and then we’ll have some surprises for the winners,” Pastor hinted.
On Saturday, Sept. 12, at 3 p.m., youngsters and their parents are invited to attend “Fall into Fall,” where participants will enjoy autumn-themed stories, poems and songs and create their very own rock bugs.
“We’ll be reading different books about fall – about leaves, pumpkins, apples and harvests. I have a whole book of poems on fall and leaves and apple picking,” Pastor said.
And after the stories, participants will get to make a memento to take with them.
“They get to make a little rock bug. They’ll paint it and add googly eyes and antennae. It’s just for fun,” she said.
Saturday, Sept. 26, at 3 p.m., teens can create a craft of their own. Pastor will lead the group in making decorative boxes. Registration for this event is preferred, but not required.
“On September 26 we’re going to be decorating papier mache boxes. Some are shaped like books and some are like hearts. They’ll get to paint them – I even got some glitter paint – and we have ribbons, lace and gems. Whatever they want to do. And I’ll have markers in case they want to make up a title for their ‘book,'” Pastor continued.
“If they want to they can register online. But if they didn’t register, and there’s room, they can just come on in,” Pastor said.
Pastor also said that there are more programs coming up in October and November for both young people and teens.
