Robert Neal to speak at CEPD’s May meeting
The Captiva Erosion Prevention District will be holding their monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 6 at noon in the Wakefield Room at ‘Tween Waters Inn. Guest speaker Robert Neal of the Lee County Department of Natural Resources will give a presentation about the status of the project and answer any questions.
“We really want the community to be there and come watch the presentation,” said CEPD administrator Kathy Rooker, explaining that Neal will be giving a powerpoint presentation during the meeting so that curious residents can get the most up to date information about the reopening project.
Rooker said that she was happy about the way the CEPD, the City of Sanibel, Lee County and the State of Florida have all worked closely and harmoniously together to bring to fruition the opening of Blind Pass.
“I think it’s going to have a wonderful outcome. We all benefit when we work together,” she said.
CEPD chairman Mike Mullins has also expressed his excitement about the collaborative nature of the project and the eventual opening scheduled for July.
“As Chairman of the Captiva Erosion Prevention District, I know I speak for all our commissioners and staff when I say we are very proud of the role the CEPD has played with Lee County, the City Of Sanibel and the State of Florida in sponsoring and funding this project to restore Blind Pass,” Mullins said. “It would be an understatement to say that we are very excited at the prospect of reopening this beautiful Blind Pass and restoring the ecology of the affected waters. Man and nature alike benefit from a healthy and productive pass.”
“The water flow through Blind Pass is more than just an important amenity to the surrounding communities; it helps to invigorate Dinkins and Clam Bayous and other adjacent and related waters. Roosevelt Channel also benefits enormously as Blind Pass serves as a healthy conduit contributing to the overall hydrology from the Gulf to thebayous even to Pine Island Sound,” he explained.
“The CEPD Board of Commissioners invites all from Captiva, Sanibel, North Captiva as well as all our neighboring Lee County communities, visitors and friends to the ‘Grand Opening’ of Blind Pass this summer,” Mullins added. “More details to follow!”
