Chance to become docent at museum on Jan. 27

1 min read

On Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Old Schoolhouse, the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village will offer the chance of a lifetime.

Or at least for a year.

You can become a docent. At the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village.

Become a living participant in Sanibel’s history. Experienced docents will be on hand to explain and instruct.

But first, here is a poem by the Village Poet (sometimes called the village idiot) to give you an idea of the fun in store with a lot of very Discriminating people in a Delightful setting:

THE DECENT DOCENT

The daring docent

never daunted

depends on wits

to declaim all that

docents should know

and sometimes make up

into the decorous ears

of adults and downcast kids

dumbfounded never delighted

at being dragged drowsy

but ever determined

to be bored and dopey

about offerings diverting

and different never dull

but the deft decent docent

diverts the ditzy kids

into the Old Schoolhouse

with desks topped with toys

and a pull rope that drops

from the ding dong belfry

darn if that doesn’t do it.

Raymond Buck

Special Offer this year only: docents get the opportunity to cut pieces of rosemary off the enormous herb in the Village Garden for their gourmet cooking.
