Theological studies to resume at Sanibel Congregational UCC

2 min read

Senior Pastor John Danner’s Wednesday Theological Studies Series will resume on Sept. 14 at Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ. This year, the class will be offered twice each week, at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Participants can attend either session.

The first offering of the new year is “Oil and Water: Environmental Theology and

Ethics.”

In light of the crisis in the Gulf over the course of the past few months, this course (which will run from Sept. 15-29) will explore the theological perspectives on environmental issues offered by three different thinkers: 19th century transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson, 20th century German theologian Jürgen Moltmann and contemporary American theologian Sallie McFague.

The class will feature lecture presentations week, and a period for questions, comments and discussion.

The second offering this fall will begin Oct. 6, and run through Oct. 27.

Titled “70 x 7: The Theology and Practice of Forgiveness,” the course will examine various approaches to and understandings of forgiveness. Each week’s class will include lecture materials and small group discussions focused around practical ways to implement forgiveness in life.

Participants are asked to pre-register for the course at Sunday morning fellowship hour or at the church office, located at 2050 Periwinkle Way. Call 472-0497 for additional information.
