Doc Ford’s hosts first of three dinners with museum authors
The first of three dinners donated by Marty and Brenda Harrity for the Sanibel Historical Village’s 30th Anniversary Party took place recently at Doc Ford’s Sanibel. Charles Trainor was the high bidder and won this dinner for eight plus the three authors associated with the museum: Emilie Alfino, My 92 Years on Sanibel (Francis Bailey); Deb Gleason, co-author with Charles LeBuff of Sanibel and Captiva Islands, a Postcard History; and Jeri Magg, author of Historic Sanibel & Captiva Islands, Tales of Paradise.
Doc Ford’s manager Kimberly McGonnell was instrumental in scheduling the dinner — not an easy task.
“As I was working on the scheduling, Kimberly just took over and got it all accomplished. Then the night of the dinner, she kept stopping by our table making sure everything was to our liking,” Alfino said. “Between Marty’s incredible generosity, Charles’ extremely charitable bid, and Kimberly’s unfailing attention, it was truly a lovely evening.”
Attending were Trainor and his wife, Kay; John and Lana Jacobs; Jack and Lori Law; and Nick and Skitz Nichols. Two more of these dinners are planned after the summer season.
“In addition to the money raised thanks to Marty and Charles, being a typical museum manager, I plan to pursue some of these folks to be future volunteers,” Alfino said.
Learn more at the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A full guided tour takes place at 10:30 a.m. depending upon docent availability. The Sanibel Historical Village is located at 950 Dunlop Road (next to BIG ARTS) and there is handicap access to all buildings. Admission is $10 for adults (18 and over).
