Florida cartoonist Dave Horton will be signing copies of his latest release, “Welcome to Florida, from 11 a.m. To 1 p.m. Dec. 26 at Macintosh Bookstore, 2407 Periwinkle Way.
Horton, who creates his unique cartoons under the pen name, “Hortoons,” is well known throughout Southwest Florida from his syndicated cartoons that appear weekly in a number of regional newspapers. His style is best described as irreverent and slightly akimbo.
“Welcome to Florida” contains more than 200 cartoons as well as a fascinating “sketches” section near the end of the book that provides a window into how Dave Horton comes up with his zany ideas. Like his two previous titles, “Sanibel Island Cartoon Book” and “Sanibel Island Second Cartoon Book,” Horton continues his focus on raccoons, sharks, alligators, no-see-ums and their humorous relationship with natives and tourists alike.
The book was published by Indigo Press on Dec. 8. Indigo Press also publishes works by Sanibel author Charles Sobczak. Their most recent title was ?he Living Gulf Coast – A Nature Guide to Southwest Florida, which won a gold medal from the Florida Publisher? Association in November of this year.
