Islander announces winner of August coloring contest
As judge of the coloring contest, I am excited to announce the August winner is a Sanibel resident Emanoelle Peter. This 10-year-old vigilantly lined the map of Sanibel and Captiva with shades of blue depicting the surrounding water and two-toned greens for the islands. A bright yellow sun wearing pink shades smiles down upon the islands, while carefully added fish “swim” in the Gulf. Her picture came complete with an orange construction paper backing.
Emanoelle’s picture was delivered in an envelope hand-made out of green construction paper with more fish. For her prize, Emanoelle will receive a Treasures of the Islands Ocean’s Edge coloring book, which features original artwork by local artists Laura D’ Amelio and John McCallian.
The Islander would also like to thank Allie Hansen of Fort Myers for her colorful entry.
Here is the picture for September: A Royal Empress Angelfish. It feeds on sponges and algae, among other small items found in the Red Sea. This is a royal-looking fish indeed, so use your imagination to complete the picture.
