Southwinds Drive residents serve high tea, celebrate Will and Kate’s pending nuptials
The wedding of the decade – or so they say – may still be a day or so in the future and some 4,457 miles away, but the pioneering neighbors of Southwinds Drive could not wait. How best to celebrate? With an English tea party, of course.
Tea was duly served at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 23 on the spreading lawns of 251 ½ Southwinds Drive as a gentle breeze wafted through the immemorial elms planted by the early colonists from Poughkeepsie.
The partying throng savored the best Lyons Orange Label leaf tea, properly brewed for exactly four minutes and then strained through a 18th century strainer with just a splash of milk so that the teaspoon can stand up in it.
Cucumber sandwiches beautifully sliced (nice and thin) and of course that English staple – toasted crumpets with Marmite and peanut butter. Photographs of the impact of this combination on the guests’ palates have been censored, but the recipe is available on demand.
The spectacle was crowned by the entry of Kate and Wills’ cake, ceremonially sliced in front of photos of the happy couple and a commemorative tea caddy of Wills’ dad and his bride – the then Lady Diana who married some 30 years ago on July 29, 1981.
Accompanied by the sound of Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory the Southwinders sent their very best wishes to Kate and William for their wedding day together with a cordial invitation to drop in at Southwinds Drive if ever they are passing by and want a decent cup of tea.
