Magic and student art featured at BIG ARTS Family Day
People of all ages are invited to a free fun afternoon in BIG ARTS Boler Garden on Sunday, May 1, with a show by master magician Danny Ray. BIG ARTS Seventh Annual Family Day begins at 3 p.m.
Danny Ray is a performing member of the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood. He has been featured in newspapers, radio, TV and shared the stage with many people including Candice Cameron (DJ from the sitcom “Full House”), Nick Cannon (from MTV’s “Wild ‘N Out”) and Jars of Clay. Ray has a unique way of making people laugh, blowing their minds, and interacting with audiences. Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of management.
The afternoon will also include Art by Kids with Cancer in Phillips Gallery, which will be on display through May 25. The Young Artists Awards, a not-for-profit organization benefiting local students, works with the staff at the Pediatric Oncology/Hematology program at The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida to exhibit and sell artwork of kids with cancer. Proceeds from the sales will provide monetary assistance to families in crisis facing the challenges of childhood cancer. This project is supported in part by Target.
Art created by students from Lexington Middle School and The Sanibel School will also be exhibited in Phillips Gallery from May 1 through May 25.
Open Doors: Great Expectations Exhibit is open Friday, April 30 through Friday, May 21 in Founders Gallery. The Open Doors program, funded through donations to the Alliance for the Arts, provides classes for children with artistic talent and/or financial need.
Sponsor Congress Jewelers and Pinocchio’s Original Italian Ice Cream, Supporter Green Earth Landscape and Jerry’s Foods of Sanibel.
Family Day activities, including the magician performance, kid’s crafts, art exhibits and food are free. The event runs from 3 to 5 p.m.
Phillips Gallery is sponsored by Visual Arts Patron Season Sponsors June Rosner and Russ Bilgore. Founders Gallery is supported by Visual Arts Season Sponsors Deborah and John La Gorce.
