ArtPoems returns to Alliance with musician, poet and visual artist collaborations

ArtPoems, the collaborative trans-media poet and artist project of Southwest Florida, returns to the Lee County Alliance for the Arts on Thursday, March 3. A special reception begins at 7 p.m., with the presentation to follow at 7:30 p.m..

Ranging from Peace River to Sanibel, from Cape Coral to Fort Myers and Naples, the group of 12 artists and 12 poets collaborated to produce poems inspired by artworks and artworks inspired by poems. Poets will perform their poems, sonnets, ballads, sestinas and free verse while the paired paintings, sculptures, photography and mixed media artwork are exhibited on stage and on the screen.

Music has been added to many of this year’s ArtPoems through the collaboration of two Gulf Coast Symphony musicians, Dr. John Green, flutist and Erica Griswold, violinist; Doug MacGregor, News-Press Editorial Cartoonist and Beth Warner, guitarist.

Collaborating visual artists are Peg Cullen, Martha Graham, Philip Heubeck, James Hixson, Shelia Hoen, Hollis Jeffcoat, Dennis Joyce, David King, Doug MacGregor, Don Mauer, Andi McCarter and J.R. Roberts.

Brittney Brady, Jim Brock, Carol Drummond, Katelyn Gravel, Sandy Greco, Linda Mary Mashie, Bob Maxeiner, Jesse Millner, Joseph Pacheco, Sid Simon, Larry Stiles and Lorraine Vail are the poets.

The Alliance for the Arts proudly supports the artists and arts organization in our area as the state designated Local Arts Agency for Lee County. The Alliance for the Arts provides year-round fine art instruction for youth and adults.
