‘The Gift of Music’ offered at St. Michael’s
St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church invites you to “The Gift of Music,” a concert for cello and piano on Friday, Dec. 10 beginning at 7:30 p.m. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. The story of the concert is heartwarming, especially in the season of Advent.
Last spring, St. Michael’s raised more than $26,000 in response to the Haitian earthquake disaster. Funds were donated to Project Gaia, which delivers clean-cook stoves to impoverished regions of the world. Each stove costs $50 and runs on ethanol distilled from organic waste such as sugar cane stalks. These do not produce dangerous smoke and fumes, as does wood, thus protecting the forests and human health.
As a thank you to St. Michael’s for its ongoing commitment, the president of Project Gaia is sending two fine musicians to perform for the community. Colin Stokes, a graduate student in cello at Julliard, and Andrew Dunlop, pianist, Fulbright scholar and doctoral candidate in music at Eastman School of Music, will present this classical concert in the church sanctuary. The program will feature compositions from Chopin, Beethoven and Boccherini.
All proceeds from ticket sales will provide additional support for Gaia stoves for Haiti. Advance tickets are $25 or $30 at the door.
We hope to fill the church; but space is limited, so please reserve tickets in advance by calling 472-2173.
St. Michael’s is located at 2304 Periwinkle Way on Sanibel.
