Get an early start on your holiday shopping by attending the Center 4 Life’s annual Holiday Bazaar at the Sanibel City Civic Center tomorrow, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Browse an array of hand-made items and exotic plants at the Arts and Crafts Fair or sift through room after room of gently used gems at the Trash and Treasure Sale — or both! The money raised from this annual island event will go to support the extensive list of programming and activities available at the Center 4 Life.

Some of the Center 4 Life’s funding comes from the City of Sanibel and membership dues, but fundraisers like the Holiday Bazaar help the Center fund things like mah jongg, bridge, trips, computer classes, exercise equipment, kayaking outings and repairs to the facility.

“The Holiday Bazaar is our major fundraising event for the year, and we’ll have a second one in the spring, our book sale,” said Deborah Butler, president of Island Seniors, Incorporated and co-chair of this year’s Holiday Bazaar.

“All the money we raise goes to support the programs that we plan for people age 50 and over on the islands — though we don’t restrict participation in our programs to people 50 and over,” Butler said.

“The money also helps us sometimes provide scholarships to islanders who can’t afford to participate in our programs.”

The Center 4 Life Holiday Bazaar is made up of two components: the Arts and Crafts Fair and the Trash and Treasure Sale.

“Our Arts and Crafts fair is where local artists and craftspeople rent a table and sell their wares. For the Trash and Treasure sale, we have three rooms full of gently used items, mostly household items and art, no clothing or shoes. We’ll also have plants for sale, primarily bromeliads and orchids,” Butler said. “We’ll also be raffling off a beautiful watercolor painting by Bea Pappas, who’s also a member, that she generously donated.”

Food and refreshments will be available.

One of the best parts of the Holiday Bazaar, Butler said, is that many people discover the different kinds of programming and activities at the Center 4 Life and decide to become members. There will be someone on stand-by at the Bazaar ready to register anyone who wants to become a member.

“It’s going to be a great event this year,” Butler said.

The Center 4 Life is located at the corner of Library Way and Palm Ridge Road.
